2012 Field's End Writers' Conference

The 2012 conference was held at IslandWood on Bainbridge Island and celebrated the tenth anniversary of Field's End. Co-founders David Guterson and Nichole Vick kicked off the day speaking about the beginning of the writing community we call Field's End. Barry Eisler delivered an informative and entertaining keynote address, "The New World of Publishing: What's Changed, What Hasn't, and What It All Means for Writers." Eisler is an international thriller writer and the creator of the popular John Rain series and on the forefront of digital publishing. Jonathan Evison got conference participants fired up and writing in the morning and Susan Wingate closed the day speaking about how we get our stories into a changing world.

The sixth annual conference at Kiana Lodge brought together an exciting line-up of keynote speakers and workshop presenters. Poet, essayist, translator, and short-story author Tess Gallagher (The Man from Kinvarra: Selected Stories and Midnight Lantern: New and Selected Poems) gave the Opening Address, "Beyond Forgetting: Memory and Writing." Best-selling novelist Gail Tsukiyama (The Street of a Thousand Blossoms and The Samurai's Garden) enthralled the audience with her personal story in the Keynote Address, "A Tapestry of Voices."

2010 Field's End Writers' Conference

The theme of the fifth annual conference, held at Kiana Lodge, was perseverance. The Opening Address by Gloria Burgess (Dare to Wear Your Soul on the Outside and Legacy Living) was "Creative Perseverance: For Such a Time As This." Bruce Barcott (The Last Flight of the Scarlet Macaw and The Measure of a Mountain) used humor in his Keynote Address, speaking about how to see a book through from inspiration to publication.

2009 Field's End Writers' Conference

The fourth annual conference continued its tradition of meeting at Kiana Lodge. Jim Lynch (Border Songs and The Highest Tide) presented the Opening Address, "How to Keep the Roulette of Publishing in Perspective." After lunch, "Grammar Girl" Mignon Fogarty (Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing) entertained the audience with her Keynote Address, "The Care and Feeding of a Good Grammarian."

Writing in the Garden of the Gods: The Third Annual Field's End Writers' Conference

The third annual Field’s End Writers’ Conference was held at Kiana Lodge. Opening speaker was Stephanie Kallos (Broken for You). Roy Blount, Jr. (Long Time Leaving; Dispatches from Up South) delivered the keynote address, and National Book Award winner Timothy Egan (The Worst Hard Time) provided the closing talk. Many thanks to our sponsors Prudential Northwest Real Estate and Gilbert Thomes Jewelry. Thanks also to Eagle Harbor Book Company, which supplied books for the event.

Field's End debuted its first annual Writers' Conference at Kiana Lodge. Keynote speakers David Guterson and Erik Larson provoked our thoughts and laughter, and the 200 participants made difficult choices from among sixteen hourlong workshops.
